1983 - The Grampian Hotel. Art Deco splendour in the middle of the Highlands! From a postcard in 1983. Shows just what Dalwhinnie is missing now. Coach parties were a big source of business for the hotel and consequent employment for the village. The entrance to the Public Bar (hidden in his picture) was to the right, around the back behind the two trees. In two years of working on Ben Alder I was never anywhere else in the hotel but the public bar. It had a pool table, juke box that was never updated and beer for 50p a pint. I remember being distraught when it went up to 52p a pint, and no longer would a crisp £1 note purchase two pints.

Comments:
From the sixties on, I was a regular visitor as a coach tour driver to the Grampian during the reign of the Kettle family. In 1972 I met my wife in the village and we are still together some 43 years later - a venue of happy memories and so sad that it has gone.
