The Carnegie Hero Fund

Established by Andrew Carnegie in 1908 following a mining disaster at "Harwich Colliery" Pittsburgh, USA, where many rescuers died. Carnegie was so inspired by the plight of their families that he instigated this fund. He referred to it as "his ain bairn". This came to the benefit of Doctor MacDonald and the 2 men from Ben Alder Lodge who helped Joseph McCook.
